As one of the world’s premier research universities, we are deeply engaged with international collaboration through global programs and partnerships.

The most commonly utilized agreement is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which outlines the details for collaboration between one or more institutions. The Vice Provost for Graduate Education and International Affairs/McDonnell International Scholars Academy provides advice and resources for Washington University faculty who are considering an MOU.

The approval process has been streamlined. The Vice Provost for Graduate Education and International Affairs/McDonnell International Scholars Academy office also collects signed agreements and ensures:

  • No duplicate agreements
  • New MOUs are consistent with institutional standards and policies
  • MOUs are reviewed, bearing in mind our accreditation requirements, and
  • Expiration dates for MOUs are reviewed and/or renewed in a timely manner.
