Q. Am I eligible to apply to the McDonnell International Scholars Academy?
A. If you are a graduate of one of the McDonnell Academy’s University Partners and have or intend to apply to a Washington University graduate or professional degree program (eligible programs), you may submit an application for consideration to the McDonnell International Scholars Academy.

Q. What is the application process?
A. The McDonnell Academy accepts applications beginning October 1st through February 1st every academic year via an online form. You will be asked to provide basic information and a 1,000-word essay. Access the online application here.

Q. I have already applied to a Washington University graduate or professional degree program but have just determined that I am eligible to apply to the McDonnell Academy. What should I do now?

Q. I have yet to apply to a Washington University graduate or professional degree program and would like to apply to the McDonnell Academy. What should I do now?
A. Applying to a Washington University graduate or professional degree program and the McDonnell International Scholars Academy are separate application processes. It is required that you complete and submit applications to both your chosen degree program and the McDonnell International Scholars Academy to be considered for admission to the Academy. Please visit the website of your potential Washington University school for a graduate or professional degree program application. Q. Is there any further information I need to provide to the McDonnell Academy in addition to the application?
A. No. Only your completed application is necessary.

Q. What if I need to update or change information on my application?
A. An email stating your name, University Partner, and degree program to which you have applied to at Washington University must be sent that includes the change. Please document “Application Change” in the subject line.

Q. How do I confirm the McDonnell Academy has received my application?
A. Once your application is submitted an immediate confirmation will appear on your screen. No email confirmation of submission is sent. An additional message is provided to you immediately confirming what information was sent; you may print and retain for your records.

Q. When will acceptance or regrets be determined?
A. The McDonnell Academy Steering Committee reviews each application thoroughly; decisions are typically made by the end or March, but no later than mid-April. Please keep in mind that this can be a lengthy process and the time line is subject to change.

Q. How am I notified of the decision? Can I check the status of my application online?
A. Applicants are notified of decisions via email. After your application is received, it is automatically “in process” until notification of the decision has been sent via email. There is no online resource available that allows applicants to check the status of their application.

Q. How many Scholars are admitted to the program each year?
A. On average, there are between 15-20 Scholars admitted each year across University Partners and degree programs at Washington University.

Q. The social security number field is required, but I have no social security number. How do I proceed with the application?
