Washington University MBA student Markie Culver is driven by a desire to make a positive impact in the world.
Culver is founder of The Women’s Bakery, a social enterprise that trains East African women to build, operate, manage and sustain their own bakeries, empowering them to invest in their health, their families and their communities. Not only do the bakeries provide women with the means to support themselves financially, bread can also provide life-changing nutrition in communities where food is scarce.

The Women’s Bakery offers business education and skill building to the women it employs in East Africa.
Poets & Quants recently featured Culver among its Best and Brightest MBAs of 2017. In a Q&A, Culver talks about her passion for social entrepreneurship and how that passion has been supported by her experiences at WashU.
