The mission of the India Initiative is to create a framework at Washington University to scale up our collaborative footprint in India to address important challenges through education, research, outreach and service. Our Partner Universities through the McDonnell International Scholars Academy are involved in several active programs.

Our Partner Universities are Indian Institute of Technology BombayTata Institute of Social Science, and Jawaharlal Nehru University. There are 150 faculty at Washington University connected to India or have projects underway.

Mumbai SkylineIndia is an exciting region and a platform for collaborative activity in research, education and service. There has been significant collaborative activity with many our partners in India, including the McDonnell Academy Partner Universities, government and the private corporate sector. Initial areas of foci have ranged from Energy and Environment (more than 25 related projects), to offering workshops, publishing books, and organizing student visits. While several faculty are already deeply engaged in these, there is an opportunity to create a framework to scale up on future collaborations and improve the impact of the efforts already underway. There are about 135 faculty at WashU that have some connection to India; and this is a great resource that can be effectively utilized to meet the vision and mission of the proposed initiative.
